Eco Conscious Washing

Being mindful of how we wash our clothes not only helps extend the life of your garments, but also reduces your environmental impact. Simple changes, like washing in cold water, using high-efficiency machines, and doing full loads can significantly cut down on energy use. In fact, according to Natural Resources Canada, switching from hot to cold water can reduce the energy used for washing by up to 90%. Opting for air-drying when possible and choosing gentle, biodegradable detergents further supports sustainability efforts. Small adjustments in your laundry routine can lead to meaningful benefits for both your wardrobe and the planet.

  • Polyester items

These items include dress pants, shorts, kilts, tunics and ties. These items are made from a blend of polyester and viscose. For best results, wash in cold water and hang dry. You may dry dress pants and walking shorts on a low heat setting.

  • Shirts and Knitwear

These items include the polo shirts, formal shirts and all knitwear items. Wash in warm water. Use colour-safe bleach when needed and keep separate from other garments. Hang dry or dry on a low heat setting.

  • Cotton items

These items include socks, tights, sweatpants and sweaters. Since these items are made of cotton, for best results, wash in cold water and hang dry or dry on a low heat setting.

Please note: Blazers should be dry cleaned only to maintain their structure and finish. Kilts, tunics, and skirts must be hung or laid flat to dry, with pleats carefully arranged to preserve their shape and sharpness.

How many items should I buy?

We recommend purchasing at least 2 pairs of pants, 3 shirts, and 1 of each layering piece, such as a sweater or blazer, to ensure comfort and convenience throughout the week. Additionally, having a few pairs of socks and tights on hand allows for easy rotation, while one tie is typically sufficient for regular use. For gym uniforms, we suggest 2 sets to allow for flexibility between laundry days—but ultimately, you know your child’s needs and your household routine best.
